Ugandans go to the polls on Friday 18th February 2011 after an uncharacteristically peaceful campaign period. It can only be hoped that this is not the quiet before a storm. Let us pray that whichever way they vote, they will meet their desired aspirations through the elections. Some quarters have been promising fire and brimstone if they loose elections through a stolen vote. We yearn for a rig-free election and a peaceful post-election situation. Although very few African political parties concede to electoral defeat, we hope the losers will take it in their stride to concede if the elections are free and fair. As spelt out in the constitution, the courts are awaiting any petitions against unfair electoral play. Extra constitutional means of looking for justice will only lead the country to pre-1986 grief. We do not want to go back to the days of duka duka (run run) or panda gari. Let all eligible Ugandans simply use the power of their ballot to determine the leaders they want.
